Landlord Insurance
SAGIC Landlord Insurance
SAGIC (Salvation Army General
Insurance Corporation) is a relative newcomer into the landlord
insurance market, however they have been insuring property for
their members for many years.
It is a captive insurance
company, originally started by the Salvation Army to insure their
own property, but is now branching out into the general insurance
sector.
Since the company is a highly
ethical one, it is unlikely to commence offering products through
aggregator sites.
What we like
The company has shown itself to
be flexible in underwriting specific risks that fall outside the
ambit of traditional landlord and unoccupied property insurance. It
has appreciated the different types of tenancies and provided cheap
landlord insurance rates for the whole gamut, including unoccupied
or owner-occupied homes. Being able to speak to underwriters to
discuss cases has enabled us to offer a more comprehensive service.
What we are looking for in the
future
The policy being used for
landlord (and unoccupied property) insurance is based on their
traditional household policy. Production of a policy tailor made
for the landlord insurance market would help the company establish
a firmer presence (but would restrict the flexibility currently
available for switching between schemes e.g. going from a landlord
policy to an unoccupied property insurance policy).
