Long Stay Travel Insurance
Overview on long stay travel insurance
Long stay travel insurance for the over 50, over 65, over 70, over75 and over 80 can be split into standard and backpacker
travel insurance. The latter is a special form of travel insurance most
suitable for youngsters on their gap year where the main requirements are cover for medical
expenses, especially if working or during course of hazardous activities (bungee jumping,
trekking at altitude, camel racing, zorbing etc). Benefits limited to medical expenses and
very little else, concomitant with low maximum/ inner values.
However, standard long stay travel insurance is more suitable for extended trips where
higher benefits are needed. Including these are high cancellation levels and luggage for
e.g. bespoke holiday of a lifetime or cruise. Too many travel insurance policies
are available with limited cancellation/ luggage and other benefits on the supposition that
the traveller intends to stay with relatives or does not pre-book accommodation/ transport.
Our long stay travel insurance policy provides the same level of benefits as a standard
policy with the proviso that trips up to 12 months may be covered at any
age up to 85. There are
three levels of cover (Bronze, Silver, Gold) each suitable for different demands and needs.
The Bronze policy has adequate levels of cover, the silver fairly substantial and the Gold
extremely high (Unlimited medical expenses and £10,000 cancellation). Flexibility is
enhanced by the option of deleting the excess on most sections and adding golf, travel
dispute and, for the businessman, business equipment. The emphasis is on policy cover,
rather than premium and, since the policies are arranged by brokers, excellent service with
professionals acting on your behalf.
The rates below are for long stay travel insurance for the under 50. i.e.18
to 49 and assumes commencement date is 1st March. The premium, of course, depends on total
length away. Please note we rate by weeks rather
than months, so the exact premium may lie between the premium quoted. e.g. travelling for
5 and a half months results in a premium more than 5 months, but less than 6 as shown below.
Other than the Economy contract, travellers can save 20% by deleting cancellation cover and
15% by deleting baggage cover if not necessary. A small saving on the combined premium is
available for a couple aged between 18 and 49 and Families are rated at twice the single
premium. Qualifying children travel free.
