Cruise Travel insurance for the over 75
We recommend you request a call-back to discuss your travel insurance needs
As travel insurance brokers we have access to several schemes, not available online, so to make best use of our services, we recommend you request a call-back by selecting the appropriate option in the
'Travel' drop-down menu above. This will enable us to obtain accurate information about your party and trip duration e.g. medical conditions to ensure that the policy you purchase best meets the requirements for your travel insurance.

Cruise Travel Insurance
Now that retirement has taken place, much more leisure time
is available - perhaps enough to spend an extended period on a
cruise. Maybe the traveller is in receipt of a lump sum from the
pension or maybe it is just a case of wanting to ski - spend the
kids inheritence! In either case travel insurance will be
required once the cruise is booked. over 75 travel insurance can
meet the several needs of the elderly.
For many cruises, the insurance requirments for the over 75
will be pretty standard and any travel insurance policy that
recognises that the trip is in fact a cruise will be suitable -
at least for the minimum requirments of medical cover and
cancellation cover. However there are several policies available
that are specifically designed for cruises and may give
additional benefits e.g. cancellation of on-shore vists.
Only experts or fools should take out insurance online
without contacting a broker. Products generally are much worse
than through the Broker market as insurance providers cut
service in a desperate attempt to sell products on price. Whilst
our over 75 travel insurance options include online purchase,
OAPs or the elderly should seek our free advice and obtain a
recommendation.
As a long-established Insurance broker, B Portwood &
Co Ltd have specialised in travel insurance for the over 75 and have
access to many schemes who ask
whether the trip is a cruise, but a plethora
of alternatives are available. We recommend that prospective customers
contact us, so we can discuss the covers needed and provide the
one most suitable for your trip. Our contact number is :

Further notes on cruise insurance
- The same requirements to disclose medical condtions for
all those going on the cruise will still apply. Premiums
will be affected by the increased perceived risk of having
to cancel the cruise or needing medical treatment (which
may, of course necessitate emergency airlift from the cruise
liner.)
- Standard insurance policies that ask about cruises will
also ask about countries to be visited, or regions of the
world where the cruise liner will dock. It is important to
note all the countries and to select the highest region (if
the travel insurance quotation system does not ask for each)
- this will usually be in one of three regions: Europe,
Worldwide excluding America (and probably also Canada and
the Caribbean) or Worldwide including the USA, Canada and
Caribbean.
- Specialist cruise insurance policies may ask specific
details of the cruise and link these into the actual
cruise supplier. Some may select any cruise provided the
length of the cruise is less than a certain period.
- Which brings up an important point. Cruises can be very
expenses, can be booked a long time ahead, which means that
there could be a massive cancellation potential liability. A
policy that provides £1,000 or even £10,000 cancellation
cover is woefully inadequate if the potential cancellation
costs are £30,000, £50,000 or even more.
- It is thus important to contact an insurance broker that
has access to specialist cruise insurance policies. If
unable to provide a quotation immediately they will be able
to contact a wholesale broker or underwriter that
specialises in cruise insurance.
